Municipal Working Group
Mandate
The Municipal Working Group (MWG) is designed to solicit ideas and information, identify priority issues, and propose advice from Ontario Great Lakes municipalities to the Government of Ontario, specifically in relation to the COA.Objectives & Expected Outcomes

Share ideas and information of particular relevance to municipalities around the Great Lakes that would contribute to environmental improvements in the Great Lakes Basin.

Identify 3-4 priority issues of relevance to Ontario Great Lakes municipalities that may be addressed through the COA.

Based on the priority issues identified, reach agreement on specific advice and recommendations to convey to the Ontario Government with respect to goals and targets under a new COA.

Advise the Great Lakes Mayors and Chairs Committee of its proposed advice to the Ontario Government.

Possibly consider joint ventures between the Ontario Government and municipalities with respect to the Great Lakes that fall outside of the COA.
Membership
- Municipal representatives from each of the Great Lakes regions, reflecting diverse sizes and including members and non-members of GLSLCI.
- Representatives from GLSLCI.
- A representative from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Meetings
Facilitated by GLSLCI, the MWG met 5 times between October 2008 and April 2009 to reach agreement on its proposed advice and recommendations to the Ontario Government with respect to protecting the Great Lakes. It has recommended this advice to the Great Lakes Mayors and Chairs Committee and prepared a report which will be shared and discussed with the relevant Ontario Ministers on May 5, 2009.
