Joint Municipal - Provincial Committee
Mandate
The Joint Municipal Provincial Committee (MPC) is designed to exchange ideas, viewpoints and needs on the Great Lakes between municipal and provincial representatives, specifically in relation to the COA. Some of these ideas may also lead to collaborative efforts that proceed outside of the COA.Information, ideas and advice from the Municipal Working Group were shared and discussed between Mayors, Chairs and Ministers at a COA MOC Summit Meeting on May 5, 2009. Objectives & Expected Outcomes

Discuss ideas on issues of municipal and provincial interest that would contribute to environmental improvements in the Great Lakes basin.

Identify 3-4 priority issues of particular municipal interest that may be addressed through the COA.

Identify how these issues could best be reflected or addressed in a renewed COA.

Discuss other possible areas of collaboration related to municipal-provincial interests in Great Lakes water quality.

Share their information, ideas and advice with Mayors, Chairs and Ministers meeting under the COA MOC to discuss Great Lakes water quality and municipal interests.
Membership
The committee consists of approximately 20 members made up of:
- Municipal representatives from small and large municipalities from across the province.
- Provincial representatives from the Ontario Ministries of the Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
- Representatives from GLSLCI.
- A representative from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
- Observers from other relevant Ontario ministries and federal departments may also be invited.
