Overview of water conservation plan:
- The Region of Peel developed a Water Efficiency Plan in 2006. To see the plan, please click here.
- The Region of Peel is one of the fastest growing Regions in Canada. The population is expected to increase 23% by 2015. As a result, the Region developed a water efficiency plan in order to reduce excessive water use.
- The Region's water efficiency goals are to reduce averrage annual day demand and peak day demand by up to 10%, and wastewater flows by 7% by the year 2015.
- The Region's Water Efficiency Plan applies to residents, as well as the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional sectors.
- The Region's Water Efficiency Plan focuses on implementation of the following measures to promote water efficiency:
- System leak detection
- Toilet replacement
- Clothes washer replacement
- Indoor water audits
- Outdoor water audit
- In 2008, the Region of Peel began an in-house Spray Valve Replacement Program. The program offers applicable food service facilities in peel free water efficient pre-rinse spray valves for their dishwashing operations.
