Overview of water conservation plan:

The City started a voluntary water conservation program in 2007 which supports the conservation guidelines, principles and practices drafted by the Michigan Section - AWWA. The voluntary program includes the following sections: 1. Public Information and Education; 2. Metering; 3. Meter Calibration and Replacements; 4. Distribution System Audits; 5. Leak Detection and Repairs; 6. Full Cost Pricing; 7. Outdoor Efficiencies; 8. Indoor Efficiencies; 9. Water Use Restrictions; and 10. Land Use Planning.

Water Conservation initiatives from the plan include:
- Providing water conservation tips to educate customers

The entire water system in Monroe is metered

Distribution system leak detection program

Provide standard water efficiency kits to existing and new customers. Upon request, kits will be provided with meter changes to residential/multi-family customers (1 kit per account) who consume large amounts of water. Consumption will be monitored of customers who have received the kit.
