 Overview of water conservation plan:

  • The City started a voluntary water conservation program in 2007 which supports the conservation guidelines, principles and practices drafted by the Michigan Section - AWWA.  The voluntary program includes the following sections: 1. Public Information and Education; 2. Metering; 3. Meter Calibration and Replacements; 4. Distribution System Audits; 5. Leak Detection and Repairs; 6. Full Cost Pricing; 7. Outdoor Efficiencies; 8. Indoor Efficiencies; 9. Water Use Restrictions; and 10. Land Use Planning. 
  • Water Conservation initiatives from the plan include:
    • Providing water conservation tips to educate customers
    • The entire water system in Monroe is metered
    • Distribution system leak detection program
    • Provide standard water efficiency kits to existing and new customers.  Upon request, kits will be provided with meter changes to residential/multi-family customers (1 kit per account) who consume large amounts of water.  Consumption will be monitored of customers who have received the kit.
