Overview of water conservation plan (under development):

• The region of Durham is responsible for the provision of water and sewer services for the Town of Ajax.  For information on the Region’s water conservation programs please click here. 

• The Town of Ajax has also initiated its own efforts to reduce water consumption, in support of Durham Region’s efforts and the objectives of the GLSLCI Water Conservation Framework. 

• Water conservation measures are integral to the design of the Town’s new LEED-certified Fire Hall which is under construction. 

• Reducing water usage to sustain municipal gardens and parks through innovative landscape design and field operations. 

• The Town is also considering installation of a central irrigation system for all sports fields and is in the process of developing a High Performance Building Strategy that will identify opportunities to conserve water and energy at municipal buildings. 

Water conservation achievements to date:

• Renovations at the Ajax Town Hall and its recreation centers including the installation of low-flush toilets and sensor-activated water faucets. 
• Harvesting rain water for irrigation purposes at Town buildings
