Protection of Freshwater and Coastline
The Township of The Archipelago developed its first Handbook – Caring for Our Waterfront Property for Future Generations.
Over 90% of their private land is used by seasonal residents and over 70% of the residences are water accessible only. The Township mailed each ratepayer (3300 total) this 60-page Handbook to be used as reference material to better inform property owners how they should properly care for waterfront property in the Georgian Bay. It was so well received that the Township decided to produce and distribute other Modules on an ongoing basis. The 2008 published editions titled; Premise, Our Shoreline - the Ribbon of Life, Forest Health, and GIS Web-Mapping of the Forest Health Site all emphasize conservation and environmental protection This year the Township issued its latest module Caring about our Waterfront Wildlife.
All Handbooks are available on the Township Web Site. http://www.thearchipelago.on.ca
