Montreal First Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development
Montreal has implemented his First Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development from 2005 to 2009. Through the slogan "Every action accounts. Participate in the domino effect.", the City in partnership with several organizations has carried out actions for a sustainable development. The orchestration of this Plan has been done in constant dialogue with his partners. Indicators measuring progress help to monitor the accomplishment of the Plan.Now this 5-year dynamic and evolving first plan is completed, a second plan for sustainable development is on the way to be adopted.

Promote Low-Carbon Energy Generation and Consumption
Integration of Alternative Transportation in the heart of the St. Lawrence River
The City of Montreal is showing the way to sustainability by integrating alternative transportation into its Transportation Plan. The Review 2008-2009 highlights a $324 million investment in public transit. Projects under the Transportation Plan include of the expansion of bicycle parking, the extension of bicycle trails, repairs to sidewalks for pedestrians, and" pedestrianization" of some streets. Montreal's 'Bixi' program, a free bicycle service, is now internationally known.
