US EPA Urban Waters Small Grants Program
The US EPA has announced a funding opportunity associated with their Urban Waters Program, a program which supports communities in their efforts to access, improve, and benefit from their urban waters and the surrounding land. The Urban Waters Small Grants funding opportunity will fund projects across the country to help restore urban waters by improving water quality and supporting community revitalization. Specifically, the grants will fund research, studies, training, and demonstration projects. Examples of projects eligible for funding include:
- Education and training for water quality improvement or green infrastructure jobs
- Public education about ways to reduce water pollution
- Local water quality monitoring programs
- Engaging diverse stakeholders to develop local watershed plans
- Innovative projects that promote local water quality and community revitalization goals
Information about Urban Waters Small Grants including the Request for Proposal (RFP) and registration links for the webinars is available at http://www.epa.gov/urbanwaters/funding. The deadline for submitting proposals is January 23, 2012. There will be two webinars about the funding opportunity on December 14, 2011 and January 5, 2012 (registration is required). The deadline to submit questions about the RFP is January 16, 2012. EPA expects to award the grants in Summer 2012.

NOAA Funding Opportunity for Areas of Concern
NOAA's Restoration Center announces a federal funding opportunity (FFO) for habitat restoration in U.S. Great Lakes Areas of Concern. The FFO is available at www.grants.gov, funding number NOAA-NMFS-HCPO-2012-2003232.
Funding proposals are due by February 16, 2012.
Through this solicitation, NOAA seeks to openly compete funding available for habitat restoration in U.S. Great Lakes Areas of Concern with funds provided by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.Applications selected for funding will be implemented through a grant or cooperative agreement, with awards dependent upon the amount of funds made available to NOAA for this purpose by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. NOAA anticipates up to $5 million may be available for habitat restoration; typical awards are expected to range between $1 million to $4 million. NOAA will also accept proposals to develop engineering and design plans for habitat restoration; typical awards for these are expected to range between $75,000 and $350,000.

Sustain Our Great Lakes Grant Opportunities
Funding priority for both the Community and Stewardship grants programs will be given to on-the-ground restoration projects that improve the quality and connectivity of stream, wetland and coastal habitats in the Great Lakes basin.
2012 Community Grants Program (Please click here to download the Request for Proposals)
- Supports habitat restoration and enhancement projects that simultaneously: 1) improve local habitat conditions; and 2) build local conservation capacity
- Grant awards range from $25,000 to $150,000
2012 Stewardship Grants Program (Please click here to download the Request for Proposals)
- Supports large-scale habitat restoration and enhancement projects that will have enduring and significant positive impacts on the ecological condition of the Great Lakes basin
- Grant awards range from $150,001 to $1,500,000
