The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Annual Meeting

About

The largest freshwater sea is in jeopardy.

Despite improvements over the past 30 years, much progress needs to be made. Water needs to be conserved. Invasive species need to be controlled. Beaches need to be cleaned. Medical waste — and other pollution — needs to be curbed. Join us July 11 – 13 at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids as we work to protect and restore the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.

At The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, we believe protecting and restoring our water begins at home, and the annual meeting and conference will bring together leaders and advocates who are working to protect and restore the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence and their ecological systems.

Join mayors and administrators, public works directors and environmental advocates, community and business leaders, and educators and students at this three-day conference designed to craft and move forward strategies and key actions on behalf of this critical global imperative.

During this conference, cities and other participants from across the basin will learn how local initiatives and issues can impact water quality and quantity such as:

  • water conservation and efficiency
  • St. Lawrence River issues
  • climate change effects
  • proper disposal of household hazardous waste, electronic waste and pharmaceuticals
  • ballast water controls
  • other emerging issues

This year's conference will also explore the application of sustainable practices of environmental stewardship, economic prosperity and social responsibility that will ensure the protection of these precious resources and the survival of future generations. Join us to learn about practical case studies, ecologically effective best practices and actionable tools that you can take home for immediate implementation in your communities.
