Fox
Riverfront
The Fox Riverfront Plan was prepared by the Boston firm StoSS landscape urbanism for the City of Green Bay. Three alternatives were offered for consideration. Several presentations were made to the public and the council before action by the latter. The Council approved the following. East Riverfront Boardwalk: The boardwalk scheme maintains the goals of diversity and river access but employs a folded wooden surface that both rises up from the existing grade (to create overlooks, terraces, lookouts, and fishing piers) and slopes and steps down to the river (to create stages, amphitheaters, landings, and docks). The sectional variations allow for a wider variety of access, observation, circulation, repose, gathering and commercial opportunities while leaving the existing bulkhead wall largely untouched. Also, the Flatley Memorial will be moved to a prominent location on a terrace visible along the entire waterfront. Along with plans for the East Riverfront, plans were made for the West side of the river also. West Riverfront Wetland Terraces with Public Amenities: This scheme would overlay the wetland habitat terraces with a boardwalk, pier, and pathways that allow for greater public access to the waterfront. Here, the experiential and educational aspects of the river's edge and of riverine ecology could be recognized and celebrated. Below is ths pre-schematic design summary.
