Riverfront efforts are progressing

Update on Former Bob-Lo Boat Columbia

1.17.06 The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy has completed an 18-month study regarding the feasibility of restoring the Steamer Columbia, one of the Bob-lo boats. Regrettably, the Conservancy leadership has concluded, after exhaustive efforts to rationalize the anticipated operating costs of a restored Columbia, that undertaking this significant project would be difficult if not impossible during these difficult economic times.

National Foundations Commit $17 Million To Further Detroit's Revitalization

12.02.05 Financial support of the transformation of the Detroit International Riverfront substantially increased recently with a commitment of $2 million from the Ford Foundation to the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, Inc. (DRFC), part of a larger group of commitments linked to Detroit’s innovative riverfront development totaling $17 million from the Ford Foundation and also the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Silo Demolition Makes Way for Revitalized Waterfront

10.11.05 The City of Detroit and the State of Michigan have commenced demolition of three cement silos along Detroit’s waterfront, following a ceremonial demolition held Oct. 11 at the LeFarge Silo on E. Atwater. Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick struck the ceremonial first blow in the destruction of these obtrusive facilities that have survived decades of failed ideas and proposed plans.

DRFC Receives $32 million For East and West Riverfront Development

7.30.05 Following an announcement by U.S. Senators Carl Levin (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy (DRFC) is celebrating a major funding announcement of $32 million for the East and West Riverfront Development. The DRFC funding includes $29 million for the West Riverfront greenways and $3 million for the East Riverfront.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Bates Street Outfall Project

8.1.05 The groundbreaking ceremony for the Bates Street Outfall project - a collaboration between U.S. Senator Carl Levin, the Corps of Army Engineers and the City of Detroit, was held on Monday, August 1, 2005. This groundbreaking marks the beginning of a project that has been in the works for more than 30 years.

DRFC Banners Along RiverWalk

7.26.05 The DRFC is proud to announce that we have our permanent banners along the RiverWalk as we show the world who we are. The distance measurement markers are already on the RenCen portion of the RiverWalk (including in metric), with all intentions of having a distance measurement feature as part of the overall RiverWalk wayfinding/signage system in the future.

 
 

The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy Hosts National Media

7.12.05 The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy (DRFC) hosted a luncheon, led by the Conservancy Co-Chairs, at Coach Insignia restaurant to introduce national feature and travel media to the Detroit International Riverfront on July 12 during a Baseball All-Star FAM (familiarization) Trip hosted by the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB).

Detroit Riverfront to Benefit from Governor's New Clean Up Projects

3.29.05 In a press conference held at Tri-Centennial State Park on the Detroit Riverfront, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today identified 47 environmental cleanup projects that will be completed around the state as part of her plan to create tens of thousands of jobs and jumpstart Michigan’s economy this year.

GM Donates Riverwalk To Detroit Conservancy

12.20.04 The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy (DRFC) celebrated a major milestone this past Friday in the transformation of the Detroit RiverFront as the GM Plaza and Promenade was unveiled in a ceremony at the General Motors’ Wintergarden in Detroit.
